Day 192

Breakfast was biscuits and gravy , made healthy by using spicy turkey sausage, light butter, and skim milk.  I also made the biscuits using Heart Smart Bisquick and skim milk, and used a rolling pin and everything.  My grandmothers would be so proud!  I also had a half cup of pineapple and two glasses of water.   Total: 8 points Lunch was a half cup of potato chowder from Liberty Hill (get used to hearing about this, because I have a big thing of chowder), eight whole grain crackers, a quarter of an avocado, a half cup of tomatoes, and two glasses of water.   Total: 8 points Snack was a glass of skim milk with some ovaltine.   Total: 2 points Actual vintage Ovaltine ad. For fun, we cleaned out the hall closet, which had become a graveyard of cat toys, clothes that need to go to Goodwill, and approximately one thousand old phone chargers, extension cords, and media cables. Dinner was three ounces of delicious ribs, Skinnytaste baked chipotle sweet potato fries , fou

Day 191

Breakfast was two glasses of delicious water on the way to the Farmer's Market, where we picked up meat (from Lothar, of course!), honey, tea, chips & salsa, soup, and chicken pot pie.  I heart the farmer's market. Lunch was at Haute Dog  because we had a livingsocial voucher--I had a beef dog with chili, ten of Chris' french fries with a tiny bit of sriracha mayo, and three glasses of water.   Total: 11 points Then we went to Corcoran for beer, but they were understaffed and I was not feeling all that great, so we went home.  Snack was Vicodin, plus Betty's chips and salsa, and a quarter of an avocado, and two glasses of water. Total: 7 trippy points Today's Fine Art in Blogging is by Melissa Sarat . Dinner was a cup of a cup of potato chowder that we got from Liberty Hill Farm , a spinach salad with tomatoes, carrots, and olive oil, plus a cup of milk and two glasses of water.   Total: 7 points Exercise was 30 minutes of wii fit. Train

Day 190

The day started off with a return to physical therapy.  The therapist and I agreed to take it easy, and even with that, I've had to alternate Advil and ice today.  I would like to give a shout out to the lady that would not SHUT UP about her Pomeranian, and got mad when the rest of us got in to a robust discussion about dodgeball and other horrors of elementary school P.E. Awww, you're cute.  But no one cares. Lunch was a cup of grandma's chicken rice soup, a cup of tomatoes with a teaspoon of olive oil, four tootsie rolls, and two glasses of water. Total: 3 points Today's Fine Art in Blogging is by Julius Guzy . Exercise was 30 minutes of wii fit and some quick resistance training for my arms, along with two glasses of water.  After Chris got home, we went for a 15 minute walk.  Then I had a glass of chocolate milk.   Total: 2 points This is exactly what we look like when we go for walks. Dinner was a serving of Skinnytaste Baked Macaroni and Cheese (

Day 189

Day 11 of Conga Lessons... Before we get to the food, can we take a diversion in to wedding planning?  First, I want to shamefully admit that Chris and I had a half hour discussion the other night about what stamps to use on the Save the Dates.  Muscle Cars?  Rosa Parks?  Innovative Choreographers? Latin Music Legends?  (These are all choices, by the way.) Major League Baseball All-Stars, anyone? Tonight for fun, I tried to figure out invitation wording, which was hard.  I seriously cannot imagine requesting the honour of anyone's presence at anything, up to and including Kate Middleton and Jesus singing a duet of  Summer Loving  atop the Eiffel Tower.   The internet also suggest barf-worthy things (the harmony of love meets with the melody of life to create our beautiful love song...), stupid things, and things that start to seem reasonable after you've read all the barfy and stupid things (having your cats issue the invitation, "Your presence is requested as we

Day 188

Conga Lessons (convalescence) Day 10! When I wasn't doing my permitted 3 hours of work today, I was watching a seagull on a chimney until the new Pope was elected. Lunch was two ounces of chicken, a quarter cup of brown rice, an orange, and four glasses of water.   Total: 6 points Then I exercised!  Lightly!  For 45 minutes!  First I did really easy cardio-ish things on wii fit, followed by yin yoga, and finally, I went on a walk with Chris.  He said it was really cold, but I was actually okay.  I'm sure that had nothing  to do with him having a shaved head and me having a giant mane of hair. Thank you for demonstrating, Beyonce. Post workout snack was a piece of Skinnytaste banana bread and two glasses of milk.   Total: 8 points For dinner, I made chicken tacos based on this Mexican Napoleons recipe from the Pampered Chef.  I make it more healthy and less time intensive by putting the filling in regular taco shells instead of making napoleons (ain't nob

Day 187

Weigh in day, and I lost exactly two pounds!   15.6 more to go...  So, back to Conga Lessons (convalescence) Day 9. I woke up and sat in bed for three hours, staring off in to space.  Mornings are the worst.  Then I had a hard boiled egg, a piece of whole wheat toast, a little bit of jelly, and a glass of tea.  Note: I don't eat sugar free jelly--there's just some things that Jesus did not intend for us to do.   Total: 5 points "Go for the regular grape jelly, my child." Lunch was a cup of chicken rice soup (made by grandma), an orange, and a glass of water.   Total: 1 point Today's Fine Art in Blogging is creepy, and by Vincent Van Gogh.  Perhaps you've heard of him? Then Chris took me on an exciting field trip to the Post Office, where the nice postal clerk and I discussed Family Medical Leave.  I jokingly asked if he was the only person that worked at the post office since he's the only one I ever see there, and because our post offic

Day 185 & 186

Day 7 of Conga Lessons (convalescence)... Lunch was chicken and noodles, plus a cup of pineapple (from my fruit basket), and two cups of water.   Total: 5 points I actually felt well enough to go out to dinner!  And Ford's Fish Shack didn't have a wait!  It's a surgery miracle!   This is one of the pictures that comes up when you do a google image search for "miracles happen." Yeah, I don't know either. So dinner was a corn muffin, a salad, angry mussels, and half of a slice of blueberry pie.  Plus two glasses of iced tea, and a glass of wine (I know !)  since I didn't need any Vicodin that day.   Total: 19 points Today's Fine Art in Blogging is by  Damon Crook . Liquids:   4 /6 Dairy:   0 /2  Vitamin:  1 /1 Healthy Oil:   0 /2 Fruits/Veggies:   3 /5 Protein:   2 /2 Whole Grains:  no Exercise: Nope. Total :  24 /26 points Weekly Points :  24 /49 for the week Well, that was a disaster.  I was under in points, but nutritionally,

Day 183 & 184

Before we get to the oh-so-thrilling list of what I ate, a few non-food things of note: First, I finally got to exercise!  Okay, so it was a 15 minute walk around the neighborhood, but it felt good to get outside.  Thanks, weather, for being so awesome. Just like this, but we're younger, dress better, and weren't on a pier. Chris always carries a basket of sunflowers though. Second, we worked on some wedding stuff, including picking out Save the Dates, which the bridal industry hilariously refers to as STDs.  As an HR Lady, STD to me means Short Term Disability .  To the rest of You People, it means Sexually Transmitted Disease , although I think the kids now call them STIs, with the I standing for Infection.  News you can use.  But we picked some out, and a very nice lady from Etsy is working on making them out of recycled paper.  (Let me tell you how hard it is to avoid the icky BS wedding industrial complex.) Or not. Third, My Girl Queen Elizabeth is signing a

Day 182

I got almost ten hours of uninterrupted sleep Wednesday night--score!   Lunch was (let's say it together now) chicken and noodles.  I also had a banana and two glasses of water and some whole wheat crackers.   Total: 11 points Today's Fine Art in Blogging painting is by R. Joanne Johnson . Then I itemized and bagged up some clothes for charity, which was one of my planned post-surgery projects.  I always save the free big plastic bags that charities mail out because "they're good bags!" as my grandmother would say.  Well, turns out that I have over ten of them.  Which means that I have skipped becoming my mother, and just become my grandmother instead. I felt really worn out after that, so I watched some tv and had a bowl of rice chex and milk.  Then, the doorbell rang and it was a package from Marvie, who sent me some get well cake pops!  So I had to eat one.  It was delicious.   Total: 9 points Adorable...and tasty! We were going to try to go to
