A 10 Meeting Monday

Breakfast - Ezekiel bread (80), 2 glasses of lemon water.   Why is Ezekiel bread so great?  The protein in it is comparable to an egg or milk, and the bread is sprouted, which makes all of its minerals (iron, zinc, calcium, etc.) easier to absorb.  The only downside I've found is that it can mold quickly, so half of my latest loaf is livin' in the fridge, while the other half is chillin' in the freezer.  (Get it?  Chillin' in the freezer?  Shut up.  I'm HILARIOUS.) Snack - Banana (100) and almond butter (80), 2 glasses of water Lunch - Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese   which has 15 grams of protein and is made from real ingredients! (270), salad (40), and a TJ's meringue cookie (25).  More water.  And coffee (30).  Because look, people, I had 10 meetings today.  TEN!! Dinner - Turkey meatballs (200), brown rice (200), cucumbers (10), mini ice cream cone (70), plus water. Calories - 1105 Water - 10 glasses Exercise - 2 mile

Pizza, nachos, and meatballs!

Weight last week: 155.4 Weight this week 155.2 It's not a disaster of Camilla proportions, but it's not Kate.  We'll give it a Sophie. "WHY ARE YOU NOT EATING BREAKFAST AND DRINKING ENOUGH WATER?!" I'm going to blame last week half on myself and half on the city of Philadelphia.  I traveled to Philly for work, and the hotel food was suspect (as most hotel food usually is).  I did pack a bag of healthy snacks (yay!) and then left it in the car overnight and had to throw it away (boo!). When my coworker and I arrived, we asked the nice lady that checked us in about the hotel restaurant.  She said "it has lots of different types of food--something for everyone!"  That's hotel-speak for "don't eat there."  So I braved cobblestone streets and drove us to Tria , which is highly rated on yelp and described as Philadelphia's destination for wine, cheese, and beer lovers . Sign me up! I managed to keep it light by shari

Weigh in day!

Weight last week: 158.8 Weight this week: 155.4 You know she's cheering for me personally, right? Here's what the week in food/exercise looked like, since I know the blog (occasionally) inspires (some of) you to eat healthy: Tuesday B - oatmeal cooked in almond milk, topped with cinnamon, maple syrup, apple, plus 4 glasses of water L - Apple, pumpkin protein square , salad with chicken (I forgot the healthy salad dressing, so I literally used a teaspoon of some bad-for-you dressing that we had leftover from a work thing.) And more water. S - Ezekiel bread, half of a banana, half of a mini packet of almond butter, plus two more glasses of water. D - Quinoa pasta and homemade marinara sauce a la Chris, another cup of water S - Tortilla chips, just a few E - None because I worked late I joined Instagram.  So far this is my first (and only) picture: my oatmeal. Wednesday B - Ezekiel bread and had 2 glasses of water. L - Shredded buffalo chicken breast , salad, pumpkin

In Johnny Weir news...

Stop what you're doing: thanks to a tip from Aunt Sue, I now know that Johnny Weir will be on Hollywood Game Night on NBC Thursday.  Set your DVRs to faaaabulous! Okay, on to things that don't involve fur coats or Faberge eggs or Russian nesting dolls... For breakfast , I started by cutting my finger while slicing a lemon.  Then I drove to work, trying not to faint. Large banana (120) Almond butter (80) 4 glasses of water with lemon Next time: cut lemons, not fingers I at lunch in between meetings, while the usual lunch gang discussed privacy as a currency and whether Facebook violated the concept of informed consent by manipulating newsfeeds without telling users .  Aren't you just dying to have lunch with us? Salad with lettuce (10), tomato (20), feta (30) and ham (90) and champagne dressing (30) Pumpkin protein bars (100) Tru Whip (25) 2 glasses of water with lemon Toward the end of the day, I had snack .  Note to self: eating kale & spin

An exercise in restraint

Before we begin, happy birthday to Amy!  I hope your day was as fabulous as the Duchess of Cambridge and as over-the-top as Johnny Weir.  I hear there was a big celebration in Germany today--I can only assume that it was in your honor. Since I knew I'd be heading to my mom & dad's house for Amy's birthday lunch, I tried to have a protein-y breakfast . Hard boiled egg (75) Blueberries (40) 2 glasses of water Maybe I should have had more hard boiled eggs, because I was starving by lunch .  I do want to point out that I piled on the green beans, potatoes, and ham, and showed MAJOR restraint in the mac & cheese, biscuit, and cake departments.  Seriously, I wanted to eat it all. Cup of green beans (30) Sliced tomatoes (20) 5 ounces of ham (200) Mac & cheese (210) A third of a reduced-fat biscuit (50) Ice cream cake (250) 2 glasses of water Get in my mouth, ice cream cake. After departing Manassas, we stopped by Trader Joe's, where we gra

Only Frank Perdue likes thighs this size...

The good news from last week is that I didn't gain any weight.  The bad news is that I didn't lose any either.  So I'm still at 158.8.  That's totally justified, since I started off strong, then devolved in to a dehydrated, ice cream eating mess.  Anytime my routine gets disrupted (traveling, company, not grocery shopping, lots of events), I find it really hard to stay consistent with eating healthy and exercising. I'm feeling just...blah.  My clothes feel tighter, and I feel uncomfortable.  No good.   So the goals this week to help with that are: Drink 8 glasses of water a day. Exercise every day except Friday. PLAN BETTER! Breakfast was cherry tomatoes (50) and a tiny bit of homemade ranch dip made with fat free sour cream (30), plus a glass of water.  Look, I just don't really like sweet stuff for breakfast. Then we went to the Farmer's Market where we picked up three types of tomatoes ('cause I love 'em!), some blueberries, an

Just another manic Monday...

Back to reality... Mondays after holiday weekends are the worst. Breakfast was two glasses of water, a banana (105), and some almond butter (90) while a string of people stopped by to marvel in amazement that after several hours at the pool, I can turn a color other than glacial white.  And that color is, of course: freckle.  Really, I don't tan, I just become a Confederation of Freckles. I find this picture terrifying, yet captivating. Lunch was leftovers from last night, so turkey meatballs (200) and rice (215) with a cup of grapes (60) and two glasses of water.  And then I sat there and thought about what would happen if I just shoved all of my coworker's fries in my face without asking him (answer: probably nothing, because he's so insanely nice), but I didn't do that.  I went back to my desk and worked on stuff. Eventually (like 5 minutes later) I got hungry and didn't want my yogurt, so I had some coffee (90). Truth. Dinner was sushi (400),

Weekend recap

Saturday was the last full day the Atlanta Superfriends were in town. Brunch Around 11ish we headed to Lost Rhino Brewery, where I had a salad (100), nuts (135), and water (good!) plus some of Chris' nachos (250?) and beer (150) (bad!) In fairness to me, I only drank two and a half mini glasses from the sampler.  I outsourced some (to Chris) and there was one that no one liked.  No lie, it tasted like smoke. Then we went to the outlets, where I showed major restraint by not buying anything from Banana Republic.  I also joined the hoards of crazy people in Kate Spade, since all handbags were 50% + 20% off.  The line went out the door.  I got a purple wristlet for $50.  $50, people!  I also scored a $13 shirt from Ralph Lauren, and Brooke bought me a pair of flip flops from Vineyard Vines for passing the SPHR!  Thanks, Brooke!  (Kate Spade, Ralph Lauren, and Vineyard Vines?  I feel so New England-y!) Dinner Around 4ish we headed to Ford's Fish Shack, where I had a

Catching up on the week...

Tuesday looked like this: Breakfast - just water.  One of my goals is to actually eat breakfast, so I was a little irritated with myself.  But I had a new employee starting, and I had to spend time with her, and not spend time eating a banana.  (Yes, I'm aware that I could have gotten up 3 minutes earlier and eaten a banana.) Lunch - took the new employee out, but kept it healthy with chicken souvlaki (360) and salad (50) from Katarinas , which is DELICIOUS.  If you go, get the Greek potatoes.  And the hummus.  And anything, really.  Plus some water. Snack - Success!  The work peeps offered to bring me ice cream, but I had a Greek yogurt (100) instead! Dinner - I was going to make turkey meatballs and brown rice, but I forgot one of the ingredients, and we were both too tired to go to the grocery store.  So it was leftover whole wheat penne (200) and homemade marinara sauce (65) to the rescue! Calories - 775/1400 (hmmm, too little isn't good either)
