December 27th - 31st

Tuesday Breakfast was sleeping.  I regret nothing. Lunch was pupusas!  Okay, half of a pupusa, and one and a half tacos.  Don't they look yummy?  They were yummy. Dinner was supposed to be delicious Pizza Pork Chops from Chef'd, because the recipe had gotten lots of 5 star reviews.  Pretty sure the people that rated it so highly were drunk.  It went in the trash, and I had (mostly) healthy Christmas leftovers instead: Ham courtesy of one of my father-in-laws (lucky ladies have two!) Stuffing courtesy of my grandmother, Mammy The Uggie, made by me, name by my cousin Josh (he doesn't like cranberry sauce) For exercise I walked a mile, which I know isn't much.  But!  I also cleaned out the garage, organizing everything in to three piles: consign, donate, sell online.  And I already made $10!  I feel like the calories I burned doing all that should count double. We'll give it a Kate, accessorizing this oft-repeated coat for Christmas with a faux fur c

Merry Christmas from the Browns!

We began 2016 in style, on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Since we've now been to all of the major islands, here's the high-level overview: Kauai - Lush, tropical paradise with an inexplicable amount of chickens. Oahu (Honolulu/Waikiki only)  = Tysons Corner + Japan + A Circus + the suggestion of a beach. Oahu (everything else) - a nice and fabulous place to visit, with awesome hole-in-the-wall restaurants.  Try the poke and the musubi.  And the chicken katsu.  And an acai bowl.  Just eat everything. Maui - Crazy hot windward coast (Lahiana) OR freezing cold mountains (Haleakala) OR crazy windy death road (Hana).  Also there's a Costco and good plate lunch place near the airport. Big Island - lots of rocks, probably similar to the surface of Mars?  We should ask Matt Damon. The hiking on Kauai was amazing.   Then we did the Krispy Kreme Challenge in Raleigh (again).  Chris did not manage to eat all the donuts (again) and I did not eat any donuts during the race

December 26, 2016

As you were lying in bed this morning thinking about all of the holiday cookies you ate, and how you're gonna join Weight Watchers and/or a gym, I know the first  thing you thought was: gosh, the Shame Squad would really inspire me to do all those things. Think and you shall receive, my friends. Breakfast was a homemade latte and a big ol' bowl of strawberries & blueberries with a sprinkling of granola. Lunch was 3/4 of bowl of vegetarian bibimbop, minus the egg, because I'm weird about what foods do and don't go with eggs.  This was definitely more of a "Chris dish" than an "Alyssa dish," but hey, I didn't have to cook, so I'm in support of it!  I made sure I got enough protein with a little Christmas ham after I was done with the bibimbop. Mmmmmmbop, bibimbop ba do whop. Snack was the Aldi version of a laughing cow wedge, 7 crackers, and some green tea. Do you like my new mug? It was a Christmas gift from a colleague.

Breakfast was a blueberry muffin and a latte.  I'd like to thank Past Alyssa for snagging a box of Betty Crocker Wild Blueberry Muffin Mix, and to my Current Husband for making them while I was in bed.  Score! We went to my in-laws for lunch to decorate the Christmas tree, and I had a small bowl of chili and some Velveeta shells & cheese.  In addition, I had some vegetables, because if you invite me over to your house, I will show up with some veggies and dip.   I also had some water and hot green tea, because everyone else was drinking coffee, and I can only have one cup before I get jittery. I made this for a thing at work last week. It's an owl. For exercise, I did 90 minutes of yoga, including holding the dreaded Pigeon Pose for 7 minutes.  Help me, Buddha!   This was my view during yoga today.  Namaste and whatnot. Dinner was shrimp with rice and corn and bread, plus a little piece of chocolate and some more hot tea.  Because carbs are delicious.
