Day 120

What do we want?  CARBS!  When do we want them?  NOW! What's cookin', good lookin'? I woke up feeling horrible, so I went to the doctor, after lying on the bed and lying on the floor, and whining to myself.  By the time I got home it was lunch.  Normally I'd think "hey, I'm sick--time for macaroni and cheese with a side of doughnuts!"  But no, dammit, we are not going to do that.  So I made some super healthy soup (fat free chicken broth, carrots, celery, brown rice) and a skinny grilled cheese (weight watchers wheat bread, skim milk cheese, cooking spray).  Also two glasses of water.   Total: 4 points Scientific fact: doughnuts make you better when you're sick. Snack was a cup of chex with a half cup of skim milk, and a s'more.   Total: 8 points For dinner, I polished off the Thanksgiving leftovers--two ounces of turkey, a half cup of homemade cranberry, and a tiny bit of stuffing.  I also finished the last of the caprese salad,

Day 119

Breakfast was an egg, an ounce of ham, and a half cup of homemade skinny cranberry pineapple relish .  Man, I love Thanksgiving leftovers.  I also had two glasses of water.  Total: 5 points Oh Leftovers, which art in the refrigerator, hallowed be thy name. Lunch was the strange combination of two ounces of turkey, a cup of rice chex with a half cup milk, and a few bites of Aunt Beth's chocolate eclair cake from Thanksgiving.  Plus two more glasses of water.  Whatever, it's what I was hungry for.   Total: 9 points I'm an adult and I'll eat what I want! Snacky time was four tootise rolls, yet another delicious caprese salad, and a cup of water. Total: 6 points Dinner was four pieces of sushi, a big ol' salad of lettuce and sundried tomatoes, blueberries, and a glass of water.  Total: 4 points Dessert was a s'more like thingy that Chris made, and a half cup of milk.  This is why weekly points were invented, my friends.   Total: 6 points I act

Day 118

I did yoga and wii fit cardio today, with two glasses of water.  I still hate my wii fit yoga instructor, and I still need a name for her. What should I name you?  Gennifer?  Stephanie? Jillian?  Claire?  Ingrid?  Kim Kardashian?  Sarah, Duchess of York? Breakfast was sleeping.  Hooray for four day weekends!  Although I slept in because I woke up at 3 a.m. feeling beh. :(  At least I didn't have to go to work. Chris made turkey chili with beans (Andrew--double protein!) for lunch, so I had a cup of that, five whole grain crackers, and two glasses of water.  Dessert was four tootsie rolls.   Total: 8 points Oh chili, I heart you. Snack was leftover caprese salad with lots of tomatoes, an ounce and a half of mozzarella (Andrew--protein!), olive oil and homemade skinny pesto .  Also, I hope you people like my self-congratulatory mentions of homemade pesto, because I have lots of caprese salad leftovers.   Total: 5 points Did I mention that I MADE MY OWN PESTO?! Dinne

Day 117

Yesterday was weigh-in day, and I'm up 2.2 pounds, with 22.2 now to lose.  EFF!  A disaster of this magnitude can only be represented by the following: I can't decide what is worse: their hairstyles, Camilla's safari coat, or Anne's glasses.  Or Anne's shirt. Or Anne's multiple scarves.  Dear God, Anne, get it together! Breakfast was with Chris and his dad, and included a cup and a half of potatoes, grilled tomatoes, fruit, a hard boiled egg, and a piece of whole wheat toast with a teaspoon of jam.  Also two glasses of unsweetened tea.  Sooo tasty for $8.  Thanks, Eggspectation!   Total: 10 points Hooray for non-meat protein! Snacky time was a slice of weight-watchers friendly pumpkin pie with a tablespoon of fat free Cool Hwhip and a glass of water.   Total: 3 points Why do you say it like that?  Cool Hwhip? My pumpkin pie recipe is SO easy and will seriously take you five minutes to throw together before you pop it in the oven. Preheat oven t

Day 116

Breakfast was a cup of rice chex with a half cup of milk, a tangerine, and a glass of water.   Total: 4 points Lunch was a Chicken and White Bean Enchilada with Creamy Salsa Verde , courtesy of Skinnytaste .  These were a decent amount of work (I usually have chopped onion, chopped jalapenos and shredded chicken on hand, but today I didn't) but seriously, these were SO worth it.  The only thing I changed was to add a little crushed red pepper to the chicken since we like it spicy.  I also had a half cup of Cabbage Mango Slaw , four tootsie rolls, and two glasses of water.   Total: 7 points Veggies!  And protein!  And whole grains! Snack was a cup of milk, a cup and a half of grape tomatoes, and a half cup of dip made with reduced fat sour cream.   Total: 4 points I think this would make a good tattoo. We belatedly celebrated my dad's birthday at Magnolias.  I had to have bread so I could get in my two teaspoons of olive oil. ;)  I also had half of a fried green

Day 115

Breakfast was two glasses of delicious water.  Total: 0 points Lunch was a half cup-ish of chili expertly made by Joyce, and four tortilla chips, plus a salad made with a cup of lettuce, a half cup of tomatoes, a half cup of sun dried tomatoes, and a teaspoon of olive oil.  Also two more glasses of water.   Total: 5 points Snack was a cup of blueberries, four tootsie rolls, a glass of water.  The blueberries have been really good this year--thanks, blueberry farmers!  What are you putting in them?  Crack?  If so, that's okay.   Total: 1 point Exercise was navigating around all the people at the grocery store who apparently only see the inside of a grocery store once a year when they buy food for Thanksgiving.  Also weight lifting and wii fit.  Big fat orange cat acted terrified of the wii fit, like he had never seen it before.  Even though we've had it for almost a year.  What can I say?  He's sweet, but he's not smart. Dinner was a half cup of rice, a hal

Kate's Hideous Outfits

No posts this past week, because I've been having an anemia issue (a good excuse) and a work stress issue (a bad excuse).  Anyway, that's legitimately meant limited exercise, and not-so-legitimately meant eating an entire pan of brownies. We'll start again tomorrow. Since I'm feeling all gross, I thought I'd bring you Kate Outfits I Hate. (Gasp!)  Yes, they do exist!  Here we go: There's so much wrong with this.  The fabric looks like it was from the 90% off bin at Joanne's, and the hat looks like a tea cozy. This was a big ol' state dinner disappointment.  Is this really Alexander McQueen?  It looks like Sarah Burton designed the bust, then left a group of 4th grade girls to design the rest. Points for the parasol and the color, but I just want to attack the top with safety pins to make it fit better.  Also, she seems to like those weird ill-fitting button tops on dresses.  Why, Kate?  Why?! I feel like Camilla picked this one ou

Day 114

I weighed myself yesterday, and I lost almost a pound--now I have exactly 20 pounds to go.  It'll be nice when the "pounds left to lose" number starts with a 1 and not a 2! Oh Kate, you're so cruel sometimes. ANYWAY, meanwhile back at work, the nurses staged an Olive Oil Intervention with me based on my anti-olive oil post .  Hee!  Apparently, olive oil aids in digestion, and some fat is good for you.  In the words of Nurse Kate, it helps your colon health, and health is "all about butts."  She also said she has seen lots of butts, but most of them are not interesting.  Remind me to never be a nurse. I ate well Thursday, Friday, and even yesterday, but pretty much mentally tracked things.  I do need to exercise more though.  Difficulty: no yoga classes this week.  I might try Zumba at work.  God help me. Finally, Happy Veteran's Day from me and from Kate.  She is, after all, a military wife!

Day 113

So we need to have a discussion about olive oil.   As I have said before, Best Friend Debbie is my olive oil dealer (there's a good store in Fredericksburg that carries oil and vinegar).  She picked some up for me this week, and in trying to figure out how to use hers, came across this article that basically says you're wasting your time (and calories) with olive oil, and can get the same benefits from non-fatty plants.  Uh oh.  I did more research (God bless you, internets), and found similar articles, including a recent one in The Washington Post.  So I'm taking the "healthy oils" out of the equation until someone else convinces me otherwise. Things that make you go hmmmm..... Food labeling has come a long way, but still has a long way to go.  It's frustrating to think you're eating healthy, only to discover that salad you just had is more fat and calorie laden than a burger.  Basically I have figured out that: All Natural = We're trying
