Day 64

Breakfast was, once again, a PowerPoint presentation.  Total: 0 points Then it was off to the doctor (but not my usual doctor) so he could look at my foot stigmata.  I told him that I was lying in bed and felt something sting/bite me, so I got up and put peroxide on it.  I also told him that over the past week and a half, I used peroxide/soap & water/neosporin on it every day, and let it air out at night.  My boss suggested that I spray Windex on it, which I would have tried, but it seemed to absorb things.  I guess having a streak free shine wouldn't be so bad.   Windex fixes everything! Anyway, I explained that it was getting worse (as evidenced by the redness and swelling around it), and the doctor decided that maybe I had "worn really tight shoes." Eventually with some help from the nurse, me, and maybe WebMD, he decided it was infected.  So I now get to add an antibiotic to my daily diet of chocolate chips and water! "Is "shoes" a val

Day 63

Breakfast was...PowerPoint Presentations and two glasses of water.  I'm so drowning in work right now that I'm making PowerPoints right before I present them.  It's like being in college, and doing your work right before class, except that you have to dress up, and can't drink while you're doing it, and...okay, it's not like college at all. So many PowerPoints! I finally got around to eating lunch, when I had a slice of veggie pizza, and a salad that was 2 cups lettuce,  a quarter cup of tomatoes, and two teaspoons of olive oil.  Dessert was a tablespoon of chocolate chips. I also had two glasses of water. Total: 10 points Dessert of champions! My last meeting of the day had a buffet of goodies, and I managed to eat a half cup of fruit and an ounce and a half of cheese, avoiding the cookies and pepperoni and booze (hey, maybe THAT meeting was  like college).  Total: 3 points. Dinner was a yummy homemade black bean burger on a whole grain bun with

Day 62

Guess what was for breakfast?  If you said "fruit and water," you win!  Okay, I also had 5 whole wheat crackers and a piece of reduced-fat cheese in addition to my apple.  Also, one glass of water.  Total: 3 points Lunch was three ounces of lamb, 3/4 cup of brown rice, and a salad with a cup of lettuce, a half cup of tomatoes, and two teaspoons of olive oil, plus two tiny clementines and two glasses of water.  Total: 9 points Dinner was deeeeeeeeeelicious!  Three ounces of chicken, a cup of whole wheat Israeli cous cous with a teaspoon of olive oil, and lots of green beans that I made last night.  I cut the ends off instead of snapping them, and my grandmother is probably rolling over in her grave. Forgive me, Meemaw! Oh, and whole wheat Israeli couscous, where have you been all my life?  Only 1 gram of fat?  5 grams of fiber? 6 grams of protein?  I think I'm in love with you.  I also had two glasses of water and a cup of milk.  Total: 10 points Yummy dinne

Day 61

First, a confession.  After I posted the blog last night, I thought to myself, "Self, there are not many whole grains in this house."  So I went on a little one woman whole grains search party in the kitchen.  THAT's when I discovered the non-whole grain (but still delicious) Corn Flakes.  And I went on a little bit of a Corn Flake bender.  Fortunately, this is why Weight Watchers makes weekly points.  So now I'm out 6 of my 49 points. You are so NOT my wing man, Cornelius. Breakfast was a giant apple and five glasses of water.  Honorable Mention goes to Coworker Linzi, who gave me a glass of sassy  water that she found on Pinterest.  It tasted like cucumbers and was delicious.  Linzi and I also went on a walk while discussing the project we're on.  Hooray for multi-tasking!  Total: 0 points For you, my friend. Lunch was Indian food that I brought from home, because I had a meeting from 12-2, and what better way to torture your coworkers than to bring y

Day 60

Breakfast was blueberries--lots and lots of them.  (Okay, it was a cup and a half.)  The blueberries this year have been delicious.  I have eaten so many that I might turn in to Violet Beauregard, minus the Oompa Loompas.  I also had 2 glasses of water.  Total: 0 points Lunch was a beet salad, featuring beets that I had roasted all by myself! (I'm overly excited about my ability to clean beets, wrap them in foil, and stick them in the oven.)  My salad also had an ounce and a half of goat cheese, 2 teaspoons lemon olive oil, and 2 cups of lettuce.  I also had a side of 1 cup of watermelon.  Dessert was a tablespoon of chocolate chips. I drank 4 glasses of water.  Total: 7 points. I would like to think my beets came from Schrute Farms. Then I went to yoga, where we did many things, including Legs up the Wall, which is awesome.  Try it if you are stressed--just hang out there for 5 minutes or so.  All you need are legs...and a wall.  You can also spread your legs in a v fo

Day 59

Breakfast was Canadian bacon, a hard boiled egg, two tiny tangerines, and three glasses of water.  Chris said he "enjoyed eating a pig from Canada."  Total: 4 points Magical, wonderful animal. Lunch was homemade chicken salad (shredded chicken, plain fat free yogurt, grapes, curry powder, salt) in half a whole wheat pita, seven baked lays chips, and a salad with a cup of lettuce, a half cup of tomatoes, a slice of reduced-fat bacon, and a tablespoon of low fat dressing.  Dessert was the now infamous tablespoon of chocolate chips.  Total: 10 points Chris and I went for a half hour walk today.  It was uneventful, unlike yesterday, when Chris though he saw the Giant Chicken from Family Guy.  Turns out it was just a nice lady in a bright yellow sari. Dinner was awesome.  I tried a new recipe (adapted from All Recipes) for spicy black bean burgers .  I used green chilis instead of peppers, and had mine with cheese on a whole grain bun.  I also had a cup of tomatoes wi

Day 58

I don't know if you noticed, but I exercised every day for the past week!  Yay!  I'm giving myself the purse!  Isn't it lovely? Also, are you guys loving this weather as much as I am?  Man, it's awesome.  Chris and I went for a 45 minute yesterday afternoon, and the temperature with the breeze combo was perfect.  Thanks, baby Jesus, for the lovely weather. So the weigh-in situation kind of sucked this morning--I gained 4 ounces with 26.8 pounds to go.  SO FRUSTRATING.  If I look at what didn't go well last week, I'd say it was that while I made good choices during The Freezing Meetings, I still ate more than I normally would have.  My throat was all allergy-riffic, so I didn't drink as much water.  But this week, I'm really willing to blame Weight Watchers, because they changed their system again .  So I think next week I'm going to post all my points, and we'll go from there. Die in a fire, Jennifer. Anyway, Saturday means a tri

Day 57

Are seasonal allergies kicking anyone else's ass too? I'm finding it hard to drink water right now because everything tastes snotty (mmmm, delicious)!  But I am trying.  Breakfast was three itty bitty clementines, 6 whole wheat saltines, and a slice of cheese (Andrew--protein)!  Lunch was a whole wheat wrap with veggies, hummus, and turkey, and a side of fruit.  Dessert was a cupcake from Amazing Coworker Shelly, who very nicely brought me ONE cupcake because she knows that I cannot help myself. Usually Friday night is date night dinner, but we were both allergy-riffic and tired, so we got Rangoli to go.  We started out with veggie samosas, which aren't healthy, but which are delicious.  The lamb biryani was very good, and so was the channa masala.  If you're a little scared of Indian food, I'd suggest starting with a biryani (there are chicken and veggie varieties too).  It's kind of like Indian Rice-A-Roni. Dessert was one of Chris' blackberry

Day 56

I loved the book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" growing up.  (I also liked a book called "The Baby Beebee Bird," mostly because my mom hated it.)  The premise of the book was that it started raining food, which was cool if it was ice cream, but bad if it was pea soup. Anyway, yesterday was Sunny with a Chance of Unintentional Carbs.  The day started well enough in the Cold Meeting Room with delicious yogurt, granola, and fruit.  But then, since I can't resist a mini sausage and cheese biscuit, I had one.  The larger-than-usual-breakfast made me not super hungry for lunch, which was low fat chicken soup and a fuji apple chicken salad from Panera.  Now that sounds healthy, but why eat the soup when you can just dunk bread in the broth and then eat the apple chips off the salad?  (In fairness, I did eat the tomatoes, chicken, and some of the lettuce.) My lunch date was Kiki, and we passed the time while she had IVs by talking about crazy coworkers

Days 54 and 55

For the past two days, I have been in 9 hour meetings at work.  Try not to be jealous. How I feel. Anyway, the meetings come with free food (because if you're going to stick a bunch of people in a freezing cold room and make them look at endless PowerPoints and talk about the definition of the word "manager" for hours at a time, you should at least feed them).  And then after the meetings, there are the dinners, where you try to come up with interesting things to say for three hours, despite the fact that you just spent the past 9 hours together.  Eventually, you exhaust all topics of conversation like: That conference room was really cold! That one PowerPoint slide was good. Can you believe how cold the room was? Did we ever really decide on the definition of a "manager?" Tomorrow we should all wear sweaters because the room was cold. But!  The free food is a minefield. Warning: carbs ahead! First, let me tell you what I did NOT eat for lu

Day 53

Monday featured 3 bouts of exercise!  Special thanks to coworkers Beckie and Linzi, who both went on walks with me--one walk was 35 minutes and one was 20 minutes.  I also did 90 minutes of yoga.  We got all three torturous poses in--frog, deer, and pigeon.  Or, as I like to call them: mildly awkward, mildly uncomfortable, and I-want-to-die-you-stupid-pigeons. Hatechu, pigeons! I did awesome with the eating.  Breakfast was 2 tangerines.  Lunch was 3 ounces of chicken (Andrew--protein), a half cup of tomato rice, and a healthy salad of lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms, beets and feta cheese (more protein)!  Dessert was a mini-cupcake and a few chocolate chips.  Dinner was homemade pizza on whole wheat crust, courtesy of Chris, plus another salad.  Dessert was a 100 calorie pack of cookies.  Clearly, yesterday's efforts deserve a round of applause from Kate. Since Canadian Beckie was one of my exercise buddies yesterday, I picked this Kate picture from her visit to Cana

Day 52

Even though we were both feeling under the weather, we woke up and went out for some fresh air and a 45 minute hike/meander/walk in Leesburg.  It is called Red Rocks Wilderness Overlook , and it's a pretty and easy trail. There are several old buildings at the trail head.  This used to be a grianery. After a fairly short, easy hike, you get a lovely view of the Potomac! Wow, my picture looks a lot like the one on the web site. On the drive home, we saw a roadside stand selling hot dogs, which made us want some.  So we ran by the grocery store for chicken hot dogs (Andrew--protein!), whole wheat white buns, and potato salad.  So lunch  was that and some watermelon.  Breakfast was tangerines. While Chris was napping, I made Dr. Oz's Belly Blasting Soup .  Dear Dr. Oz, you're a smelly liar.  First, you will notice that the soup pictured has potatoes and other delicious things.  And you'll notice that the ingredients list does not have potatoes and other delicio

Day 51

Weigh in day today, with 1 pound lost since Tuesday's post-vacation weight gain disaster.  26.4 pounds to go! Today I'm grateful for farmer's markets.  In particular, the one we visit, The Purcellville Community Market , is awesome.  Even though I still wasn't feeling so hot this morning, I headed out to grab some iron-rich red meat for Kiki, who is now a proud (hopefully temporary) member of the Anemia Club with me.   Mmmm, pesto.  And dressing.  And salad. And tomatoes. Breakfast was wine shots with Lothar.  (I'm going to go with the theory that I'm killing my throat germs with booze.)  Lunch was all sorts of local/farmer's markety goodness.  We auditioned one of Lothar's specialty blends of sausage--Asian Habanero--for the wedding (verdict: A+), and I made a salad out of greens and tomatoes from the market, served with olive oil from the shop near Debbie.  Also some nice, processed hash browns from the freezer. Snack was chips and salsa (
