Catching up on the week...

Tuesday looked like this:
Breakfast - just water.  One of my goals is to actually eat breakfast, so I was a little irritated with myself.  But I had a new employee starting, and I had to spend time with her, and not spend time eating a banana.  (Yes, I'm aware that I could have gotten up 3 minutes earlier and eaten a banana.)

Lunch - took the new employee out, but kept it healthy with chicken souvlaki (360) and salad (50) from Katarinas, which is DELICIOUS.  If you go, get the Greek potatoes.  And the hummus.  And anything, really.  Plus some water.

Snack - Success!  The work peeps offered to bring me ice cream, but I had a Greek yogurt (100) instead!

Dinner - I was going to make turkey meatballs and brown rice, but I forgot one of the ingredients, and we were both too tired to go to the grocery store.  So it was leftover whole wheat penne (200) and homemade marinara sauce (65) to the rescue!

Calories - 775/1400 (hmmm, too little isn't good either)
Exercise - Notsomuch.

Wednesday was:
Breakfast - half of a donut (150).  Which look, I wasn't planning on it, but when the adorable high school file clerk brings you a donut and a thank you note for helping her with her job and college applications, you eat the damn donut.  Well, you eat half of it anyway.

Lunch - Because I had a donut, I had a salad with chicken (280).  And I hated it.  But I ate it.

Dinner - The Atlanta branch of the Suprefriends was in town, so we hit up our usual restaurant: Fireworks Pizza.  I had a salad (100), two slices of pizza (570), and a little bit of the giant chocolate chip cookie dessert (100).  Oh, and a vanilla porter (125).

Calories - 1325/1400 I wouldn't say that those were nutritionally dense calories, but oh well
Exercise - (Hides in shame)

But then...

Thursday began well, and slowly descended in to madness:
Breakfast - whole wheat toast, water, coffee (150)

Lunch - Cajun chopped salad at Bad to the Bone (350).  We originally went for the fried mac & cheese, but they were out.  Sad face.  If you like barbeque, they just opened up a smaller operation, The Bone, in Old Town Manassas.  They're owned by my mega-boss's sons, and they do good work.  They're especially awesome at catering (I think I've used them 3 times now, and they are super professional.)

Drinking - We went to Lothar's new shop to pick up some steaks (and naturally walked out with steaks, bangers for bangers and mash, hot dogs, summer sausage, etc.  Oh, and he gave us free beer (75) to drink while we shopped.  (Thanks, Lothar!)

After that, we went to Adroit Theory and Corcoran for not free beer (200).

Dinner - Wine Kitchen, which involved cheese (100), risotto balls (125), a half glass of wine (75), and braised pork with tagliatelle (600).

Ice cream - because hey, why not?  Dipped top cone at Dairy Queen (350).

Calories - 2025/1400
Exercise - no (SHAMEFUL)

Friday

Breakfast - Scrambled egg (75) with reduced sodium ham (60) and a piece of toast (100).

Lunch - Half a turkey burger (175), fries (300), and uncharacteristically almost three cups of soda (350).

Dinner - Half of a filet (275), a baked potato with sour cream, chives, and bacon bits (with lean bacon, drained) (300), and peaches (60).

Ice cream - This is becoming ridiculous.  I had a little bit of vanilla soft serve with graham crackers (150).

Calories - 1685/1400
Exercise - YES!  A 6 mile moderately strenuous hike!

ANYWAY, I'm feeling fat and blah, which can be summarized by...

Camilla!
Johnny Weir taking a tumble!

The York princesses!

Oh well, tomorrow is another day!  And believe it or not, I was at 160.4 pounds, and am now at 158.8 pounds, so I guess that's progress.

Freezer Meal #2 - Maple Pork Tenderloin with Apples

This is the second part of my foray in to freezer meals - the first part can be found here  for Cheesy Shells and Italian Sausage. Today we're making a pork and apples recipe adapted from The Pampered Chef.  I love this one--it's so easy to assemble in advance, most of the ingredients you likely already have, and it couldn't be easier to fix the day you want to eat it (dump stuff in pan, bake). So yummy.  And pretty. Maple Pork Tenderloin with Apples For this you'll need the ingredients below.  You probably have the oil, vinegar, garlic, brown sugar, mustard, and bags in your pantry!  You can also easily divide this recipe if you usually only cook for 2-3 people at a time (that's what I do when I make it). 2 pork tenderloins , about 2 pounds total - they can be expensive, so pick these up on sale 3 apples - I prefer honeycrisp but use what you like, or take one of these suggestions 1 small red onion 1/4 cup canola oil 1 clove garlic , press...

The Oscars, powered by onion dip

My hilarious friends Kelley and Christopher invited me over for the Oscars so that we could judge red carpet looks. Kelley is one of the few people in my life that makes me laugh without fail, and she blogs her adventures--and misadventures--over at The Lundscape .   Kelley warned me prior to coming over that they were more "Shame" than "Squad," so that's how we ended up with three types of dip.  This was fortuitous, though, because the dips sustained us through grueling hours of pausing and rewinding live coverage, swapping drink recipes  we learned on vacation, and discussing what award shows would be like on Middle Earth. Let's dive right in, shall we? Kelley : Janelle Monae's dress was sponsored by the Audubon society. Christopher:  This looks like "Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen meets Marie Antoinette." (It is revealed that the designer is Elie Saab.) Alyssa:  I'm pretty sure Elie Saab went on a coke bender. Kelley: ...

The Olympic Outfits of Johnny Weir, rated

The Verner girls are back, 4 years later, to discuss the outfits of Johnny Weir. (And the crowd goes wild!) Since writing about his Sochi wardrobe , it has been one of my top posts of all time. Other highly rated posts include a post about the palaces of Hawaii , how to pack for vacation , a Pampered Chef cheesy pasta recipe , and Meghan Markle tiara predictions . You guys are an eclectic group. Speaking of eclectic, let's talk about Johnny's overall look. First, let me start off by saying that yes, I know that Johnny looks like a cross between the Hunger Games, Pee Wee Herman, and Colonel Sanders. So obviously, I've seen that one post on Twitter about it. And that meme on Facebook. And that thread on Reddit. Johnny is not one for subtlety. One year he said he was going to go with a "not-so-literal" interpretation for his Kentucky Derby hat, and he then literally wore a crown of roses and a mint julep on his head. Basically, Johnny would not know subtl...
